When ear wax becomes problematic, we provide an effective solution Micro-suction. If further medical expertise is required, we guide patients in obtaining appropriate referrals to their GP or ENT specialist.

Microsuction
During your microsuction appointment a trained consultant will use a microscope to examine your ear canal. We will make an assessment of your suitability for microsuction. Explain the procedure, benefits and risks and with your full understanding. A tiny suction tube (called a cannula) is inserted into the canal and suction any blockage from the area. Microscution is a fast and painless procedure that minimizes risk of injury. Sometimes sterile saline solution is used help break up wax or debris.
Here are some signs to consider whether you need microsuction:
- Feeling of fullness/ Earachhe; if your ear feels blocked or congested, it’s worth considering microsuction as a solution.
- Pain within the ear whilst traveling I.e taking flights on a plane and pressure is high within the ear as the ear is blocked and there is no air travelling through.
- Hearing loss/ Difficulty in hearing; if you’ve noticed a decrease in your hearing ability it could be due to earwax build up. Microsuction can help remove the blockage and improve your hearing
- Tinnitus (ringing in the ears); persistent ringing or buzzing sounds in yours ears may be related to earwax accumulation
Microsuction is one of the safest and fastest methods of ear wax removal! However sometimes microsuction causes sensitivity immediately following the procedure, by allowing air inside the ear due to wax not being there to protect the canal.
Some individuals may experience Mild dizziness, dizziness can accrue after microsuction the sensation is usually temporary and subsided quickly.
The suction device can be noisy but it is quick and painless. Noise induced damage is unlikely but worth mentioning.
Risk of infection whilst there is a small risk of infection. Proper aftercare and hygiene are essential to minimise risk (please read treatment after care)
Microsuction is an incredibly safe procedure.
There is potential for minimal damage to the ear drum, but only it you move unexpectedly during the procedure. In very rare circumstances, you may experience minor hearing loss immediately afterwards, however this will resolve itself a short time after with your natural ear wax build up. You will be asked to sit still for a few minutes to ensure you have no balance problems.
Microsuction has many benefits. As well as being quick and easy giving instantaneous results for, it is also very safe and is suitable for anyone!

Aftercare
- Avoid inserting objects like cotton swabs, bobby pins this can damage your eardrums.
- Gently clean the outer part of your ears using water wipes or a warm damp clean cloth.

- Be cautious not to insert anything into the ear canal.
